Absinthe (AB-synth) Absinthe is an anise flavored spirit extracted from herbs, most notably the herb commonly known as Wormwood. Traditionally, it has a natural green color, however it can be colorless as well. Absinthe is bottled at a very high proof; however, it is diluted with water when prepared for consumption. It typically contains 45 to 74 percent alcohol by volume. The popularity of Absinthe began in late 19th and early 20th century France. Much of the mystery and intrigue with this spirit is a result of its association with famous artists and writers throughout history.
