WA (88-91) - This is hallowed territory, the home of Baron Roy, who created the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, the first in France. His family still possesses the 25-acre property, and makes great wines. The 2010 vintage is impressive for its structure and focused, powerful fruit. One of the best values in CDP currently on our floor.
According to the Wine Advocate: Made from 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre (an unusual blend for Chateauneuf du Pape, but typical for Fortia), the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Baron reveals serious black raspberry and black currant fruit, sweet tannin, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, a layered, multidimensional character and a long finish. This impressive effort should age nicely for a decade or more. Rated 90+
