WA 90pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: Gilbert Chon’s 2008 Muscadet de Sevre et Maine Sur Lie Clos de la Chapelle Vieilles Vignes (which – surprisingly – is the first estate-bottled Muscadet I can recall tasting from a screw-cap bottle) marks a significant contrast with most wine of its appellation for its degree of emphasis on orchard as well as citrus fruits. Certainly there are aspects to describe which one must resort to 'mineral' vocabulary – hints of salt and oyster shell in particular – but the dominance of sheer, luscious fruit (lemon, grapefruit, yellow plum, apricot) is as refreshingly distinctive as the wine is just plain refreshing. Lovely suggestions of forsythia and fine herbs waft throughout. Enjoy this beauty over the next 2-3 years.
