Grenache (Gray-NAHSH) or Garnacha (Gahr-NAH-cha) as its known in Spain, can predominantly found in blends, most notably in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Cotes du Rhône of France. Grenache has also found a home in the new world, with Australia’s production of lush blends and some extensive plantings in California. The Grenache grape is thick and vigorous allowing it to survive in harsh conditions, making it popular among growers. The mouth feel of the grape is soft, juicy and fruity, and it is this profile that generally sets Grenache apart from other varieties.
