Francis Coppola remembers his grandfather making homemade wine in his basement from Alicante Bouschet grapes shipped from California. Yearning for this nostalgic varietal he grew up with, we went searching for the best Alicante vineyards in the state. Made from fruit of 85-year old vines found in Lodi, our Alicante Bouschet is rich in color, medium-bodied and loaded with lush, jammy fruit flavors.

98pts California State Fair - Tempranillo is the king of Spanish red wines and one of the most important red varietals in our Matchbook vineyard in the Dunnigan Hills. The Spanish varietals Tempranillo and Graciano contribute spicy red berry fruit flavors; Syrah adds rich flavors of black cherry and blueberry; the spicy cedar and tobacco notes are from the cool-weather Cabernet Sauvignon; a touch of Petite Sirah pumps up the tannins, the rich color and adds a little pepper spice.

Tre Bicchieri - The Agricola Punica estate operates in Sulcis [Sardinia] .Carignano is the most-planted variety and main ingredient in blending the two wines produced. Low yeilds per hectare and careful grape selection characterize production headed up by Sebastiano Rosa, known mostly for managing Tenuta San Guido... The estate's showcase Barrua  easily won Three Glasses, thanks to a good growing season, especially for carignano, and the estate's unswerving attention to this variety.
