Red Wine (X)Pinot Noir (X)

Narrow by Keyword

GO

Pinot Noir (PEA-no NWAHR) is one of the oldest grape varieties and is renowned for its complex and austere growing conditions. The grape requires a large amount of care and attention when growing as a result of genetic instability from year to year, thin skin, insects, and fermentation complications. Burgundy is the most well known region for growing Pinot Noir, but the grape can be found and enjoyed all over the world. Once the perilous task of growing the Pinot Noir grape has been mastered, the grapes wonderfully complex profile makes it is easy to see why the winemakers go through all the trouble. The profile of a Pinot Noir can be powerful, with earthiness, rich black cheery and a hint of spice on the nose, with a very soft feel on the palate. Pinot Noir generally features moderate to low levels of tannins and acidity and should not be held to long after the bottled year. With adjectives such as complex, difficult, delicate, and powerful it’s no wonder that Pinot Noir has come to be known as the “Queen of the grapes”.
