Winemaker Notes - A wonderful tribute to the many winemakers who have 'lent a hand' in making Stag's Leap Wine Cellars the winery it is today. A cask is made of their hand in French limestone and kept at the winery as the "Hands of Time" Exhibit in their honor. The wine, a Bordeaux blend, is a tribute to the dedication of crafting elegantly balanced fine wines that has been passed down from teacher to student though the Hands of Time.

A great Stag's Leap Cab blend at a moderate price

A Stag's Leap red at $25! and it is really good too. The blend is The blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 3% Syrah. I found this wine to deliver red currents and a hint of vanilla notes on the nose. The palate is solid, round and soft with plenty of elegant red fruit aromas leading to a touch of oak and a bit of a spicy finish (as if Petit Verdot was part of the mix). The overall impression is that of an elegant wine, still quite tannic. Anyway, at that price I can't think of a better Cab blend?

Stag's Leap Wine Cellar 2009 Hands of Time

If I were drinking this wine in a blind tasting I would have guess I was drinking a French wine. Musty, forest floor and mushroom dominate the nose. It's medium body is flavored with a bit of sour cherry and raspberry. The wine did open up during the evening and it seemed a bit more demensional. The finish did linger but then again, like a French wine it was all about the forest floor.

Hands of Time

Wine is typical Stag's Leap District.  It calls itself a blend but drinks much more like a cabernet.  Decanting will help tremendously.  It is young and pretty tight.  Once it sits for about an hour, it changes dramatically.  The wine maker's notes are dead on.  Tannins are silky smooth and lingers a good while.
