This is where we here at Napacabs will take a closer look at wines that (as you may have guessed) were scored a little too low for our tastes, or would be easy to miss.
Lets face it: There are a lot of wines out there. So many wines, that deciding what to try can be quite daunting for someone who's just starting out, or even an avid buyer simply looking for something new. The current expert rating systems (Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, etc ..) do a fantastic job of making the wine world more accessible, and shining a spotlight on some truly exceptional products. That being said, it is often the case that these exceptional wines, which often see price bumps and availability issues, will overshadow their lower scoring(but also great) peers.
With The Underrated, we hope to give you another opinion/perspective on wines that are not getting the attention they deserve. We are not trying to counter or invalidate any standing critic’s score; we are simply reiterating that every score is another persons palate giving their subjective interpretation of a highly complex experience. Who’s to say their tastes align with yours? Are you wrong for disagreeing with a highly rated bottle? Or perhaps liking a wine that scored poorly? Of Course not. You don’t have to stop buying that 95pt Cabernet that retails for $90 (Seriously, please don’t stop buying that).
We simply wish to give you another perspective, hopefully making your online wine shopping experience a little more personal, and to make sure you don’t miss out on some wonderful wines that might have got (say it with me) ... Underrated or Overlooked.
