Tasting Notes - With a brilliant red-black color, the 2009 Valadorna showcases aromas of cherry cola and ripe red fruits. On the palate, spice flavors combine with earth-driven minerality to produce a wine with freshness and finesse. With moderate acidity, the wine reveals a supple and elegant texture with a long lasting finish and nearly undetectable tannins. All components are in balance and come together to produce a stunning example of Merlot, reflecting the best of its complex Tuscan terroir.
92 Points - Wine Spectator: "Brimming with sweet cherry, raspberry, mushroom, anise and spice flavors, this is balanced and fresh, with a long, energetic aftertaste of dried fruit, spice and tea. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2018. 830 cases made."
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2008 Vintage):"The 2008 Valadorna is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and is named after the remote vineyard where Merlot finds its preferred growing conditions. This is an immensely modern and monumental wine that oozes forth with thick layers of sticky Indian spice or cardamom followed by black current, candied plum and toasted espresso. There’s a pretty touch of sweetness that fits perfectly within the super-rich embroidery of the wine. It will be fascinating to see how it evolves over the next decade or so. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2030."
