WA 90 Pts - According to Robert Parker - Proprietors Fiona and Hal Barnett have fashioned a juicy, fruit-driven 2012 Merlot exhibiting a dense ruby color, plenty of mocha and berry fruit, sweet tannin, and more minerality and structure than one normally sees in Merlot (due to its mountain home). There is a stealth-like richness to this wine. The longer you hold it on the palate, the more depth and richness it reveals – always a very good sign. This beauty can be drunk now, although it will be even better in 12-24 months. It should last for 10-12 years.
According to Antonio Galloni - Barnett's 2012 Merlot is an attractive, mid-weight red laced with floral and spiced aromatics. I would prefer to drink this feminine, fruity Merlot over the next handful of years, while the fruit retains its brightness.
Tasting Notes - This wine is showing concentrated cassis, black plum and peppercorn on the nose. There is also prevalent minerality, mostly gravel with some dusty earth. Texturally, the wine is so soft and silky. More red fruit and spice (clove and white pepper) are present on the palate. Firm chalky tannins begin to build early on,which is backed by nicely prevalent acidity. This merlot will hold strong for 9-10 years (2022-2023). 14.5% ABV.
