W&S 94 WA 91+ WE 90 - According to Wine & Spirits - "The Sullenger Vineyard is located on the east side of Highway 29, on the edge of an alluvial fan that forms at the Mayacamas benchlands to the west. The clay-loam soils here built a finely structured cabernet in 2012, a wine with complex red fruit flavors that touch on plum, fresh pomegranate, rose hips and cherry pits. Gracious tannins contribute an earthy spice, maintaining a textural finesse that is neither abrasive nor slick. The tannins have the give of a fresh forest mushroom, a cushioned resilience that suggests this will age beautifully, developing complexity over the next ten years."
According to Robert Parker - "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon John C. Sullenger is a softer wine than the Hayne, shows nice dark plum, black cherry, blackcurrant fruit, forest floor and a bit of spice. It is medium to full-bodied, shows light to moderate tannin and will better in 2-3 years than it shows now. The wine is long, with lots of upside potential."
According to Wine Enthusiast - "This chocolaty, earthy 100% Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vineyard site in the middle of Oakville, farmsteaded since the 1880s. Campfire and graphite jump out, swaddled in restrained yet sizable tannins and a distinct herbal overtone. Expansive as it develops, the wine finishes strong in vanilla and more chocolate."
Tasting Notes - "The 2012 John C. Sullenger Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with bright fruit aromas that jump from the glass. Plum and cherry fruits harmoniously pair with hints of chocolate, earth, and herb to make the wine rich and full. Toasty vanilla and cedar from the oak add depth, but the signature of this wine is its luxurious mouthfeel that expands on the middle palate." 14.3% ABV.
