According to Robert Parker - "One of the better Clarkes ever made, this wine from the cool, backwater appellation of Listrac displays serious density, an opaque ruby/purple color, and lots of earth, black currants and raspberries. Drink it over the next 10-12 years."
According to International Wine Cellar - "Dark red. Medicinal black cherry, menthol and licorice on the nose. Smooth and juicy, with tight, slightly herbal flavors of cassis, licorice and mint. Nicely ripe in spite of its medicinal aspect, and sweet and fine-grained for this wine. Finishes with supple tannins."
According to Wine Spectator - "This delivers a direct beam of red and black currant fruit, liberally laced with tobacco and roasted cedar notes that hang through the lightly firm finish. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2015."
Baron Edmond de Rothschild, a partner in Chateau Lafite Rothschild, purchase Chateau Clarke in 1974 and completely renovated the domaine and its vineyard in Listrac-Medoc. The quality of the wines have increased tremendously to reach greatness as illustrated by the 2009 vintage. We are all amazed to find such quality at that price for a 2009 Bordeaux Vintage. This is a true Listrac-Medoc, soft, gentle and floral. The nose exudes cherries and black licorice. On the palate it comes out plumpy, soft and spicy with a warm feel. Greta balance between tannins and freshness. A great achievement (Gault & Millau, 2009). 14% ABV.
