AG 91 IWC 90 Pts - According to Antonio Galloni - The 2011 Chardonnay Robert Young Vineyard is gorgeous. Apricot, honey, mint, butter and juicy pear notes meld together in a Chardonnay loaded with distinction and class. The flavors are rich, broad and expansive, but the cooler vintage and blocked-malo style both contribute freshness. This superb, beautifully balanced Chardonnay will drink well upon release and for several years beyond.
According to Stephen Tanzer - Bright yellow-gold. Citrus zest, pear, smoky minerals and honey on the highly perfumed, floral nose. Brisk, tactile and focused, with very good energy to its flavors of lemon curd, pear skin and sweet butter. Finishes chewy, fresh and very long, with resonating mineral and honeysuckle notes.
According to Robert Parker - The 2011 Chardonnay Robert Young Vineyard is a non-malolactic effort exhibiting buttery hazelnut, white peach and smoky notes, medium body, attractive fruit and good richness. While not as stunning as it can be in great years, it is a very good wine to enjoy over the next 2-4 years.
Winemakers Notes - Chateau St. Jean pioneered Sonoma single-vineyard wines in the 1970s when we began our partnership with Robert Young. The "Robert Young Clone" of Chardonnay was certified in 1989, and is particularly suited to the alluvial soils of the world-class site. Each vintage expresses this special vineyard with crisp flavors of lemon oil, peach and honeysuckle complemented by the richness of oak aging. Margo Van Staaveren, Winemaker. 14.4% ABV.
