Luminescent pastel gold in color, this chardonnay has an aromatic mélange of stone fruit with hints of lemon zest. The juicy palate is filled with slowly unfolding layers of gala apple, nectarine, and apricot with subtle notes of brioche & lees. The round texture is accentuated by vibrant acidity and a pronounced, mineral-driven finish.

92 Points "The less expensive label for Paul Hobbs is his Crossbarn label. He has done a magnificent job of elevating the quality of these wines, which are all made from purchased fruit. Take, for example, the Crossbarn 2014 Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast. There are over 16,000 cases of this wine, which is bone-dry. Ten percent is barrel-fermented, and the rest aged in steel, so it is essentially a naked style of Chardonnay, and the 2014 is just a beauty, with crisp acidity, notes of apple blossom, tangerine oil and honeyed lemons in an extroverted, beautifully pure and natural style. This is delicious, and a terrific value in Chardonnay to drink over the next few years. Paul Hobbs has emerged as one of the great success stories in Northern California. He’s an international consultant known for his outstanding work in Argentina. He is also now involved in a joint venture in the Finger Lakes region of New York, so hopefully we can anticipate some interesting Rieslings and possibly Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and even Gewurztraminer emerging from New York State. I had an extensive tasting with Hobbs at his winery in late January, and the results were all impressive. The tastings reflect the fact that, for Chardonnay, both 2013 and 2014 are brilliant vintages, and for Pinot Noir, 2014 may possibly eclipse 2013. As for the Bordeaux varietals, there’s no question that 2013 is the game-changer, as I indicated in previous reports, but 2014 is delicious and another top-notch success. " - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

*One Star* Freshness is this bottling's forte at the moment, but there are glimmers of deeper fruit and neatly fit oak at work that suggest there is a little more here than immediately meets the palate and nose. While we like its clarity, its cleanliness and its balance, we anticipate finding more things to like after it has had another twelve months in which to settle down and grow past its youthful restraint. -Connoisseurs Guide

"The 2014 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) is a delicious, approachable wine with tons of character and plenty of personality. Apricot pit, peach, butter and slightly more tropical notes are front and center. Although it was done almost exclusively in steel, the 2014 is a fairly rich, buttery wine for the Coast, yet all the elements are nicely balanced. The 2014 is a blend of fruit from ten different sites." - Vinous, Antonio Galloni
