W&S 91 Pts - According to Wine & Spirits - "As meaty as a southern Rhône red, this mencía is black, ample and soft. A delicious wine and a beautiful snapshot of the variety as it grows in Bierzo, this comes from vines between 30 and 40 years old."
According to Wine Spectator - "This expressive red shows black cherry and herbal flavors, with a slightly gamy undertone. Not big in structure, but has drive, showing light tannins and lively acidity. Drink now through 2018."
According to Wine Advocate - "The 2012 Pajaro Rojo is pure Mencia from purchased fruit from 40-year-old vines whose malolactic fermentation was carried out in used barrels. They are reproducing the local family wines of yesteryear, keeping some 10% of the grapes uncrushed. It shows some reductive notes when uncorked, and then slowly reveals some tobacco and licorice notes. The palate is full-bodied, with high extract. A powerful young wine. Drink at the height of the fruit from 2014 to 2016." 13.5% ABV.
