AG 92 Pts - According to Antonio Galloni - The estate's 2010 Mad Hatter is a great example of this site and the vintage. Cool veins of graphite-infused minerality support a core of dark red and black fruit, mint, licorice, smoke, tobacco and incense. There is push and pull tension of fruit, acidity and minerality that makes the 2010 hugely appealing, even at this young stage. The 2010 is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, with dollops of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Winemakers Notes- Mother Nature provided a small but concentrated crop in 2010, thanks to challenging spring conditions, and a few waves of intense heat during the growing season. The results are the darkest, most concentrated wines produced yet from Dancing Hares, including the Mad Hatter.
The wine’s first noticeable attribute is its dark, nearly opaque, black color. The first aromas are of India ink, gunpowder, and frankincense, then rolling into more fruit-driven aromas as the wine reveals itself, showing intense structure and weight on the palate.
Our hard work during the growing season and vintage paid off, as our wines really do represent our best efforts. There is no doubt that the 2010 Mad Hatter will age for many years, and even in its youth the wine is immensely pleasurable. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.
