WA (90-92) Pts - According to Wine Advocate - Moving to the barrel samples, all of which were impressive, the 2012 Blackboard Red Wine checks in as a blend of 33% Syrah, 26% Cabernet Franc 18% Merlot and the balance Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Spending 16 months in the 100% once and twice-filled French oak barrels, it gives up solid dark berry fruits, spring flowers, graphite and spice to go with a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured and up-front profile. It should be ready to go on release and evolve gracefully. Going forward, this cuvee will incorporate less Syrah as the estate phases out their Syrah program.
According to Stephen Tanzer - Bright medium red. Ripe, dark aromas and flavors of black raspberry, blackberry, dark chocolate and smoke. A spicy, juicy midweight in a Saint-Emilion style. Firm tannins and lively acidity will not get in the way of enjoying this wine now.
According to Wine Spectator - Taut and relatively light-footed, with well-modulated blackberry and floral flavors on a polished frame. Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2017.
Tasting Notes - Blackberry, black currants and plum skin mix with dark spices and wildflowers. Swirling brings up richer black fruit, plum jam, vanilla bean and spice. The palate is ripe, rich and nicely textured. A young and exuberant style with big fruit and soft tannins. 14.3% ABV.
