WA 92 AG 90 Pts - According to Wine Advocate - The 2010 Alisos Alisos Vineyard was one of my favorite reds in the lineup. Made from 80% Sangiovese (10% was dried for 100 days) and 20% Merlot, and aged all in neutral oak, it dishes out beautiful aromatics, medium-bodied richness and a voluptuous texture that builds on the palate. Made in a transparent, lively style, with a core of sweet fruit and chewy tannin on the finish, it should continue to delight for 4-5 years. Drink now-2018.

 

According to Antonio Galloni - Palmina's 2010 Alisos is a Sangiovese/Merlot blend made with a portion of air-dried Sangiovese, which gives the wine its distinctive texture and personality. Candied red cherries, mint and licorice all take shape in this racy, intensely layered wine. This is one of the more unusual wines in the Palmina range because of the character the dried Sangiovese imparts. The blend is 80% Sangiovese (10% air-dried) and 20% Merlot.

 

Tasting Notes - As always, the first clue as to the depth of Alisos is the deep garnet color. A swirl emits aromas of red fruit and spice that mingle with earthy nuances. The bouquet of boysenberry, grated fresh nutmeg and hints of loam invite a first sip that delivers layers of fresh and dried fruit notes to the palate. The first impression is textural, with velvety tannins and lively acidity mingling and accenting fruit notes of plum, mulberry, dark cherry and herbal notes of sage and lavender. High-tone notes are provided by the Sangiovese, with the Merlot adding structure and a dark base, all brought together on the mid-palate by the dried Sangiovese’s pleasing dried plum note with hints of fresh brioche. Elegant tannins are represented by a suggestion of baker’s chocolate and sarsaparilla on the lingering, persistent finish.13.5% ABV. Rated 90+
