Wine Spectator Top 100

Each year, the Wine Spectator editors survey the wines they've reviewed over the past 12 months and select the most exciting for their Top 100 wines. The list is based on four criteria: quality (represented by score); value (reflected by release price); availability (measured by case produced or imported); and an X-factor they call excitement. But no equation determines the final selections: Choices reflect the editors' judgment and passion about the wines tasted.

Ayala NV Brut Majeur Champagne

Castello di Monsanto 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva

#31 on Wine Spectators Top 100 of 2011 - WS 92 WA 90 Pts - According to Wine Spectator - This ripe, juicy red is full of sanguine notes, along with black cherry and blackberry flavors. The tannins are well-coated by fleshy fruit and it lingers with a long, spicy aftertaste.

According to Wine Advocate - Monsanto’s 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva is simply beautiful. The opulent, forward fruit that is typical of the year is present, but a firm sense of structure keeps things from going over the top. If that sounds appealing, believe me, it is. Dark red fruit, flowers, minerals and spices come together beautifully in this serious Riserva. A round, harmonious finish rounds things off in style. Readers will have a hard time doing better for the money.

Winemakers Notes - Made with grapes from a further selection, first in the vineyard and afterward in the winery, this Riserva consists of Sangiovese (90%) and Canaiolo and Colorino (10%). It has excellent potential for aging. Rated 90+

This microclimate blend of four unique vineyard sites offers intense aromas with a soft generous texture and concentrated flavors. Kapcsandy 2008 Endre Yountville Red Wine
WE 94 Pts. - #54 on Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2011 - According to the Wine Enthusiast: Here’s one for the cellar. It’s a big, dry, muscular wine, assertive in tannins, with mineral-driven blackberry and black currant flavors. Muscular and intense, it should provide great drinking starting in 2015 and for many years after. A very great expression of its vineyard, which is basically the old Beringer State Lane Vineyard. Winemaker Notes - Crafted from vineyard block selections, continuing in the fruit-forward style of the 2007, but with more refinement, more power and more Cabernet. Elegant, lifted nose of ripe blackberries, dark chocolate, espresso, and herbs. Broad, sweet tannin and black fruit dominate the mouthfeel, well-integrated oak (70% new), provides an added dimension and potential for aging.$79.95
