WS 89 Pts - According to Wine Spectator - Firm in texture, with a lean beam of savory notes and berry and currant fruit pushing through and persisting on the refined finish. Best from 2015 through 2018.
According to Wine Advocate - Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Shiraz offers aromas of crushed mulberries, blackberries and red currants highlighted by hints of Szechuan pepper, underbrush and moss. The medium-bodied palate gives just enough youthful blackberry flavors, has a medium level of chewy tannins and a medium to long, peppery finish.
Winemakers Notes - This wine has a heady illusion of sweetness and confection, and after that lovely slender syrup establishes itself, the oozes of prune and black-berry emerge, and entwine with the dark chicory and juniper tannins and the faintest whiff of harness leather. All over the primary fruit and vegetation, it begins to prickle like summer, with smells of rain on hot sunbaked sandstone and rusty galvo, and explosives in the quarry.
Our single vineyard estate in the cooler, elevated northeast of McLaren Vale has twelve individual blocks of Shiraz. Each block is defined by different aspects and subtle variations of our sand and ironstone soils that overlie the ancient North Maslin Sands geological formation. These ancient soil layers combine with cool air flowing down from the nearby ranges to produce Shiras with finesse and rich texture.
