AG 90 IWC 90 Pts - According to Antonio Galloni - "Murray's 2012 Esperance, a Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre blend, is juicy, supple and expressive. Dark red and blue fruit, spice, mint and leather add complexity, but the Esperance is mostly a wine of pure texture and juiciness. There is a lot to like here."
According to International Wine Cellar - (20% new French oak): "Deep ruby. Seductive, assertively perfumed red fruit and floral scents gain weight with air, picking up hints of cherry pit and licorice. Juicy black raspberry and cherry flavors are complicated by a suggestion of candied violet, with bracing acidity adding focus. The clean, spicy, clinging finish is firmed by smooth, even tannins."
Winemakers Notes - "This rich red is a blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre. It was given a more serious winemaking regimen with a bit more new oak. I also chose a "bigger" Syrah to blend in with the Grenache and Mourvedre, so the resulting wine is a bit more "profound". I think that it is perhaps the best Esperance that we have ever released. All of the extra work yields a rich, concentrated wine with aromas and flavors of ultra-ripe strawberries, black cherries, and blueberries, mixed in with the spiciness of cinnamon and vanilla from the toasty new French Oak." 15% ABV.
