Cameron Hughes 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 400 Napa Valley

San Francisco Wine Competition - Double Gold

Tasting Notes - Gorgeous aromas of kirsch liqueur, crushed blue/black berries and graphite are framed with sweet toasty oak. On the palate, dense texture and perfectly rich fruit (Rutherford and Oakville) contrasts nicely with the fresh impact of mountain minerality (Atlas Peak). Crushed plum, violets and white flowers vie for attention all supported by ripe, mouth-coating tannins. Superb length and penetrating fruit are focused and intense with tremendous persistence and balance.

This wine combines grapes from a great high-end producer with legendary vineyard sources in Oakville and Rutherford and grapes from our own grapes-to-bottle programs from Stagecoach Vineyard on Atlas Peak and the Palisades Vineyard in Calistoga. The result is a stunning wine that combines fruit from some of the best vineyards in Napa Valley to create an uber-cuvee that, for me, is the archtype of great Napa Valley Cabernet. While Lot 400 is certainly a candidate for your cellar, it will be a worthy accompaniment to your table now.

Cameron Hughes 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 450 Napa Valley

WE 92 Pts - According to Wine Enthusiast - This is a seriously good Cabernet, and the price makes it a relative bargain. Dry and tannic, it has complex flavors of blackberries, black currants, blueberries and plenty of new smoky oak. A tangy minerality lifts it above the ordinary. It will hold in the bottle until at least 2020. Editor's Choice!

According to International Wine Cellar - Bright red with ruby highlights. Expressive, sweetly oaky aromas of cassis, blueberry, tobacco, graphite, menthol and brown spices. A juicy, fresh, slightly lean midweight with red cherry, crushed berry, graphite and tobacco flavors accented by spices and herbs. Finishes with fine-grained, slightly drying tannins and good length and lift. Nicely suave for 2011 cabernet, and not green.

Tasting Notes - The wine just screams out of the glass, with plump aromatics of blueberry jam, cloves, graphite, and licorice. This translates seamlessly to the palate, with the lush richness and complexity that this vineyard is famous for. The flavors flesh out beautifully, with pure blueberry essence at the midpalate and controlled tannins in the background, leaving you wanting more and more with a radiant, powerful finish. Delicious, seductive wine. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 13.9% ABV. Rated 90+

Winemaker Notes - A full-bodied, well-balanced wine that has a thick textured palate that echoes fresh black fruit flavors. Velvety firm tannins that lead to a long complex finish that screams for another splash... Cannonball. After harvest, the grapes were crushed and cold soaked to extract deep color and rich flavors. The wine then underwent malolactic fermentation to add softness and complexity while packing powerful fruit forward character. Aged in a combination of 50% French and 50% American Oak barrels for 8 months. A serious wine for those expecting great wine in every glass.

Cannonball 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon California

Winemaker Notes - The 2007 Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon presents a lively, dark ruby color, like burgundy velvet. Aromas of fresh berries, spice, and pepper with a faint background of vanilla oak are very much reflected in the mouth. Full and rich with bright acidity, the berry and spice flavors are boldly presented along with racy, red fruit and vanilla-cherry on a layer of cocoa. The finish is classic Cannonball, smooth, long, delicious. I recommend enjoying between now and 2011 to really get the most of the big fruit., but really let the wine open up in your glass to experience all the layers and complexity. For those preferring a more mature and mellow style, decant for one hour before serving.

Cardinale 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

WA 95pts. - Winemaker Notes - When we approach the Cardinale blend, the key to success is finding the balance between the mountainsides and the valley floor. Both our Oakville vineyard and the Stags Leap portion of the blend represented higher percentages in the 2004 final blend because it was clear that the mountain wines needed the middle body that these valley floor vineyards provide. The sweetness of the Stags Leap and the weight of Oakville fit in gracefully with the strength, minerality and black fruit characters from Veeder and Howell, and together they all play off of one another.

Cardinale 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

WE 97 Pts. - WA 96 Pts. - WS 95 Pts. -Winemaker Notes - As you would enjoy the varied nuances and subtle layers of a Fellini film, so you should enjoy Cardinale. The 2008 has an aromatic element that evokes violets and orange blossoms with a fruit component of dark cherry combined with a palate that offers currant, ripe blackberry and toast with a velvety texture on a long, drawn finish. Rated 90+

According to the Wine Enthusiast: Another fabulous Cardinale, better than the 2007 but short of the perfect 2006. This is so complete; it tastes like Cabernet on a cloud, light but ethereal, with ripe, polished blackberry and cherry flavors and touches of mocha, spice and cedar. The tannins are a wonder—soft and pliant—yet gorgeously complex. Drink now-2016, at least.

According to the Wine Advocate: Over 1,000 cases of the 2008 Cardinale were made from a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8% Merlot. Interestingly, the To-Kalon portion is the only fruit source located on the valley floor, which is not surprising given Jess Jackson’s propensity to buy, plant and source fruit from high elevation hillside and mountain sites. The 2008 exhibits a dense purple color along with sweet kirsch, unsmoked cigar tobacco, toasty oak and black currant characteristics. The wine hits the palate with a resounding opulence, full-bodied richness, moderate, sweet, well-integrated tannins and a long, heady finish. There is a floral component in the 2008 that was not noticeable in the 2007. This beautiful, full-bodied wine was aged 21 months in 100% new French oak. Slightly more evolved than the 2007, the 2008 should last for 20-25+ years.

According to the Wine Spectator: Strikingly graceful, refined, dense and polished, this presents a tight-knit core of dark berry, black licorice, crushed rock and floral-violet scents, keeping its focus and ending with an amazing finish. Best from 2013 through 2028.

Cartlidge & Browne 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast

According to Wine Enthusiast - Another great buy from C&B, who this time have made a subtle, concentrated and rich Cabernet with good blackberry and woody, oaky flavors and a big mouthfeel. Steak, anyone?

Winemakers Notes - Our 2010 Cabernet was pulled from the best parts of Lake County, Alexander Valley, and Northern Napa Valley. The blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Malbec. The wine was aged in French oak for 16 months, which has allowed for it to have a beautiful Cardinal Red color. The nose is rich with cassis, brambleberry, toasted vanilla short bread, and huckleberry. Bold body with a weighty mid-pallet. The tannin structure is soft yet fine that carries for a lingering finish. As always, this Cartlidge & Browne cabernet sauvignon pairs perfectly with food. We suggest a Blue Cheese Burger, Short Ribs, or a nice New York Steak.

Casa Piena 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Yountville Napa Valley

WA 95 AG 94 IWC 93 WS 92 Pts - According to Robert Parker - I have liked Casa Piena’s wines in the past, but I thought the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is the finest wine I have yet tasted. There are 500 cases of this intense, full-bodied, powerful, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers an opaque purple color, a sweet nose of licorice, scorched earth, blackberries and black currants followed by a full-bodied, powerful wine with the wood, alcohol, tannin and acidity well-integrated. Juicy and multidimensional with a layered mouthfeel, this impressive 2010 is already approachable and is capable of lasting 25 or more years. Both of these wines come from a vineyard in the Yountville AVA not far from the Kapcsandy estate.

According to Antonio Galloni - The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is a typical of the vintage. Black cherries, asphalt, mint, licorice and crushed rocks jump from the glass. The 2010 is endowed with serious depth, richness and power, yet remains elegant and light on its feet for such a dense wine. Chocolate, mocha and sweet spices add complexity on the finish. The 2010 is the product of an extremely long growing season that forced the vineyard team to drop a significant amount of fruit to ripen the crop. That choice turned out to be a great decision.

According to International Wine Cellar - Good medium ruby. Highly aromatic nose combines redcurrant, blueberry, brown spices, crushed rock, mocha, tobacco and smoky, nutty oak. Broad, suave and utterly seamless in the mouth; really spreads out to saturate the palate, with harmonious ripe acidity giving shape and lift to the intense fruit, spice and mineral flavors. Finishes with noble, very smooth tannins and lingering black fruit and crushed rock nuances. The 2009 vintage was excellent here, but this wine is at another level. Thomas Brown is responsible for the winemaking.

According to Wine Spectator - Sleek yet rich, offering a mix of red and black fruits, with olive, sage, cedar and tobacco notes. The firm finish unfolds with hints of game and road tar. Should reward cellaring. Drink now through 2024. Rated 90+
