NapaCabs Newsletter: Uncork & Unwind is here!
A little bit of Awesome!
The wine industry thrives on passion...lots of passion...thinking outside the box, and damn good wine.
NapaCabs.com was born in 2002 when Tom De Grezia, Owner, had a few cases of damn good Napa Valley Cabernet and an idea. Did I mention Tom was born in Italy? Those pazzi Italianos are born with passion. So, he definitely wasn't lacking in that area. He originally started selling, packaging, and shipping bottles out of his home. The orders kept coming in.
Fourteen years later NapaCabs now offers a selection of fine wines and spirits from all over the world. Our inventory has grown from a few cases of wine stacked in Tom's garage to a large warehouse located in Chino, Ca.
Our wine purchasing is done by folks who have their stuff together. Sommeliers, Restaurateurs, and Wine Aficionados. Below you will find some of our newest arrivals, highly rated wines, and stuff we think is just...pretty damn good. Cheers!
95 Pts. Robert Parker - "I think the most approachable in the lineup, the 2012 Bel Canto has a complex, perfumed style in its dried flowers, dried spices, vanilla and black cherry and black raspberry-like fruit profile. A blend of 84% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot that spent 20 months in 50% new French oak, it's full-bodied, concentrated and structured on the palate, yet has perfect balance and a great texture. Few in the US are doing Cabernet Franc better this, and I suspect it will hold nicely for 15-20 years." (94 Pts. WE)
Antonio Galloni 95 Pts. - The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is one of the most exotic, flamboyant young wines I have ever tasted from Randy and Mike Dunn. Graphite, cherry liqueur, smoke, licorice, plums and crème de cassis, open up in an alluring Cabernet Sauvignon that melds together ripeness and structure. The fruit is distinctly red-toned in 2012, with fewer of the darker notes that are often present in the Howell Cabernet. Pliant and expressive, but with plenty of underlying tannin, the 2012 is shaping up to be a beauty.
93 Pts. Robert Parker 65% Cabernet Sauvignon 27% Merlot 7% Cabernet Franc 1% Petit Verdot. Perfect pairing with roasted chicken, rack of lamb, light cuts of pork. The Claret is styled after great Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon blends. This wine is balanced and structured. The nose is floral, with ripe raspberry, licorice, black pepper, and tea notes. On the palate this wine is full and rich, with bright notes of rosemary, thyme, and blackberry with spice notes of cocoa and coffee. With a generous mid palate and an evolved and lingering finish with silky tannins, this powerful and refined wine is drinking beautifully now, and will age gracefully for the next 15 plus years.
WA 94 points - Not you're supermarket Gallo. The grapes for the 2009 Gallo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon were hand harvested, hand sorted, destemmed and cold soaked for two days to maximize the extraction of vivid color and flavor.
This wine is complex with sweet aromatics and dense, chewy tannins. The palate reveals black and blue jammy fruit, underscored by hints of spice. This wine will continue to develop complex layers of flavor with up to ten years of cellar aging.
Vinous 90 pts - M5 is a Chateauneuf-du-Pape style blend using five grape varieties from the highest quality vineyards in Santa Barbara County. The "M" is for Margerum and "5" for the five grapes we use: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Cinsault. M5 is always all about Grenache and, as it is every year, the trick is to balance the crimson, aromatic, lean, bright, tight Grenache, Counoise, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault based components with the bombastic, dark, black, plum, tannic, bold, intense ripe, full-bodied Syrah we make.
90 Pts Robert Parker The Wine Advocate - "The 2008 Terre di San Leonardo is a gorgeous wine. Dark cherries, plums, herbs, leather, spices and minerals are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. Floral notes add lift and perfume on the finish. This is a fabulous wine for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018."
Dancing Hares Vineyard 2012 Proprietary Red Napa ValleyWA 93 Points - After two challenging growing seasons, 2012 came like a gift from above. Very little rain, mild to warm temperatures, and a long, temperate Indian summer, made for fully developed fruit and plenty of density with a muscular - yet streamlined - build. We were able to thoughtfully harvest the fruit from our small vineyard over the course of nearly six weeks. The resulting wines are soft, rich and seamless, with each of our four varieties singing in perfect harmony.
JS 95 Pts - Winemaker Notes - The beautifully refined fruit is stacked generously on the mountain fruit's tell-tale foundation of robust tannins and its unobtrusive caramel oak presence. Gorgeous wine. Why wait? But will age incredibly well.
91 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark, fleshy and seductive, but also light on its feet and gracious. Black cherry, plum, rose petal, smoke, tobacco, licorice and cedar are some of the signatures. Classic and medium in body, this tasty Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon will drink well with minimal cellaring. Because of its mid-weight structure, Montelena's Cabernet is one of the more approachable wines of the vintage, not to mention a real beauty.
Vinous 92 Pts. - Immediately seductive, a complex nose expresses aromas of Bing cherry and boysenberry, followed closely by distinctive and captivating notes of minerality, cola and lavender. The palate is seamless from start to finish, beginning with a bright and silky entry that transitions to an ample core of dark cherry and wild blackberry. An elegant and lasting finish lingers with traces of dark chocolate and earth.
WS 93 Points "Plum, blood orange, black olive, toast and mineral notes mingle in this tight, bright red. Juicy acidity keeps this lively, while firm tannins impart focus. Drink now through 2025"- Wine Spectato
WE 93 Pts. - "Offers intriguing asphalt, black pepper, boysenberry and a tiny bit of barnyard funk on the nose. It's dark and brooding, with flavors of black pepper, leather and black fruits on the palate, but rather light and lean in texture, with a solid amount of tannic grip."
