IWC 90 WA 89 Pts - According to International Wine Cellar - "Dark purple. Cassis and cherry compote on the nose, with complicating woodsmoke and dark chocolate qualities. Then brighter and livelier on the palate, offering dark berry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of anise. Plays richness off of vivacity smoothly and finishes juicy and long, with dusty tannins adding shape."
According to Wine Advocate - "The 2012 Atteca falls in the official category of "old vines" as defined by the Calatayud appellation, produced with Garnacha vineyards over 35 years of age with yields of no more than 4,500 kilos of grapes per hectare. Despite the ten months the wine aged in barrel, the oak is at the forefront with plenty of smoky, toasty and spicy notes overlaying the ripe black fruit underneath. The palate is full-bodied, with plenty of tannins and some dryness towards the end. It still needs time to digest the oak. Very good value."
According to Wine Spectator - "This dense red delivers black cherry, cola, black pepper and bitter herb flavors, with notes of smoke and licorice, backed by firm tannins and balsamic acidity. A bit edgy, but expressive. Drink now through 2017."
Tasting Notes - "It is deep cherry. It has intense aromas of red ripe fruit (ripe raspberry) which combine perfectly with the spicy notes of cacao, vanilla and licorice corresponding to a noble aging. It is very fresh and fruity in the mouth. It has a notable ending where fruity and spicy aromas come back. It is a magnificent expression of Garnacha from Aragon." 15% ABV.
