Along with dark, rich aromas of mocha, chocolate and marinated cherries, the wine breathes out a vibrancy and aromatic brightness, laced with notes of incense, graphite, and toasting oak. These complexities carry through to the palate, where mouthwatering fruit flavors and subtle space notes meld with the smoky, ore-rich undertones. Even at this young age, the tannins are already highly polished, so the wine is immediately enjoyable. However, it will continue to evolve and improve with years in the bottle.

Tight and serious in the mouth, showing moderate density but terrific definition to its red fruit flavors complicated by a suggestion of incense. Turned plumper with aeration but this is still not a particularly opulent style. Ripely tannic and very long on the aftertaste. Notes of sweet licorice, red and blackcurrants, coffee bean, white chocolate, spice box and subtle oak are all present in this pure, nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, voluptuous 2012. It can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15+ years. Michel Rolland is the wine consultant at this tiny, boutique, seven-acre vineyard owned by Paula Brooks and Bob Cook. AG 92 Points “The 2012 Dancing Hares is dark, voluptuous and racy. Black cherry, plum, smoke, menthol and new leather all meld together in a voluptuous wine that captures the essence of this warm site at the base of Howell Mountain. Because of the small size of the property many of the lots are fermented in barrel, which gives additional textural richness and raciness, but also leaves the wine marked by oak. Dancing Hares is easy to miss. This small estate is nestled among the lower slopes of Howell Mountain, with just a few acres of vineyards scattered within a much larger property. The winery is equally tiny, but functional and well-equipped for its size. Winemaker Andy Erickson has turned out a very pretty set of 2012s and 2013s. - Antonio Galloni - Vinous
