W&S 91 WE 91 Pts - According to Wine & Spirits - "This is the inaugural release from a new winery founded by the Rouzaud family of Champagne Louis Roederer, a project that developed out of the family’s long history in Anderson Valley via their Roederer Estate sparkling house. Jerry Murray, formerly of van Duzer, moved down from Oregon to manage the winemaking, working exclusively with the firm’s estate vineyards. Reduced right now, it needs a vigorous decanting, but the fruit underneath feels healthy, shadowy and alluring, its generous texture pointed toward dark fruit, earth and a salty marine aroma that suggests a pairing with poached salmon."
According to Wine Enthusiast - "Complex and individualistic, this conveys a savory rather than fruity personality. Smoky, meaty aromas lead to spice-accented plum and berry flavors. It feels full-bodied but not hot, has a suave texture and lingering finish. The first vintage to be released from the new Roederer-owned winery." According to Wine Spectator - "A firm, dense style, with reined-in wild berry, dried herb and light toasty oak notes, gaining depth and range of flavor on the finish. Drink now through 2022. "
Winemakers Notes - "A bright and lucid expression of Pinot Noir’s captivating virtues, this wine fills the palate with black cherry, raspberry, and sumptuous red plum. A breath of clove lends perfect balance to this wine. Beneath its silkiness lies a core of tannin emboldened by acidity, showing energy and graceful agility. Not to be defined by the dominant fruits, the mid-palate reveals a compelling extension of tenebrous earth notes. Molasses and a hint of sweet oak are woven in, creating depth and sustained intrigue. The finish is striking with vitality and charm." 14.1% ABV.
