97pts - Decanter Wine of the Year 2013!

WE 91 Pts - According to Decanter - "Restrained, mineral style with elegant tannins. Youthful and fresh, feminine and complex. Deliciously decadent, with extraordinary vitality in the palate and a long unique, finish. A jewel at this price."

According to Wine Enthusiast - "Rusty and mature looking, this is woodsy, dry and rooty on the nose, with whiffs of tree bark and tobacco running alongside cherry and berry notes. It’s mature, with flavors of stewed plum, herbs and spice that are straight from the textbook, while the finish is dry, earthy and showing core acidity. Drink now."

According to Wine Spectator - "This supple red shows traditional character, with tobacco, sanguine and leather notes around a core of cherry and dried herbs. The light tannins and balsamic acidity give way to a spicy, earthy finish. Drink now."

According to Wine Advocate - "The 2001 Faustino I Gran Reserva is a modern rendition of the old-time classical Riojas, with black rather than red fruit notes and developed aromas of leather and game, black licorice and Chinese ink. It’s medium-bodied, with good acidity and it has a slightly dry finish. I’d have expected a bit more meat and concentration from this vintage. Drink 2014-2019." 13.5% ABV.

    Very worthwhile purchase ...

Overall, a very nice red with an excellent nose that is definitely woodsy/rooty with a background of cherry. Slightly more acidic than expected with a mildly disappointing finish after the initial rich aromas. Not a 97 point wine ... but certainly an excellent value that is drinkable now. Worth having a case in your cellar to enjoy this year!
