James Suckling Review
Rated 95 Points
A more subtle Saia than in the past with freshly picked mulberries, elderberries, tobacco, cedar and resin. Full-bodied and very tight on the palate with polished tannins and a long finish. The combination of dark fruit and minerals is irresistible. Drink in 2020.

A pure expression of Nero d'Avola, the 2016 Sicilia Saia is a rich and contemporary expression of this versatile Sicilian grape. The bouquet is layered and rich with plump cherry nuances followed by tobacco, spice and charred earth. This is a lavish and soft wine that maintains a mid- to full-bodied approach with soft tannins and sweet fruit endnotes. The wine is aged in mostly neutral barrique and tonneaux for up to 14 months. Drink now-2026.
Wine Tasting Notes
Intense ruby red color. The bouquet exhibits a great balance between the floral notes where the orange peel is well integrated with spiced notes of indian herbs. On the palate it is fresh, complex and persistent. The acidic components are significant and gives the wine a long life in bottle.
100% Nero d'Avola. Alcohol 14%
Sicily saw what could be described as the “perfect summer” in 2016. Rainfall was at a minimum and temperatures were not as hot as normal. These elements made for a perfect maturation, giving the white varietals a great balance and structure.
About the Grape
Nero d’Avola produces deep-colored wines that have wild cherry and plum, dark chocolate and earthy aromas and flavors, good minerality and acidity, and a high level of tannins.
Food Paring Suggestions
A superb match for full-flavored meats and game, especially stews and roasts.
