WE 90 Pts - According to Wine Enthusiast - Freemark Abbey is one of the most dependable Viognier producers in California. Here they strike gold again with a rich, powerful wine with flavors of tropical fruits, Meyer lemons, limes and honeysuckle flower. It’s balanced in acidity, and a touch of new oak adds toasty complexity.
According to Robert Parker - Two-thirds of the 2012 Viognier is barrel-fermented. The wine reveals more tropical orange marmalade and apricot notes intermixed with crisp, steely, mineral characteristics. This medium-bodied, fresh, lively Viognier should drink well for 2-3 years.
Tasting Notes - The wine is a fresh greenish straw color. The aromas are lively with floral notes integrated with fruit like white peach, grapefruit, green banana and lemon grass. With a soft and voluptuous body and texture, this Viognier is seductively pleasant with juicy fruit and white peach flavors. The distinctive floral fruit and lingering long finish, underscore the versatility of this variety. While it has broad base appeal as a stand alone glass of wine, it can be paired with many dishes, especially spicy Thai, Indian, Mexican or Asian cuisine. 14.5% ABV.
