Wine Enthusiast Review
Not much aroma initially; following aeration time succulent notes of sweet grain, sweet oak, marzipan and nuts appear. Entry is firm, focused and moderately sweet and grainy; midpalate is intensely honeyed, featuring plump tastes of marshmallow, dark caramel, fudge, cake frosting and wood. Finishes sweet and full-bodied. Very good and straightforward.
Jameson Gold Reserve is a creative blend of three whiskeys of advanced years, one of which is uniquely matured in virgin oak barrels. It's the inspired choice of this virgin oak, coupled with the bourbon barrels and sherry casks, that account for the whiskey's satisfying complexity and honey toasted sweetness.
Nose: A rich, full pot still character with touches of ripe juicy sultanas, yeasty fruitiness and acacia honey.
Taste: A sweet crisp, truly unique taste. A maltiness is first apparent and then the richness of honey, berry fruits and hints of clementines to the fore.
Finish: A very long finish with a pleasantly peppery finale.
