WA 94 WE 93 Vinous 92 WS 92 Pts - According to Wine Advocate - "Maybe the finest wine from here (that I’ve tasted anyway), the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard is a thrilling blend of almost all Cabernet (there’s 2% Malbec) that exhibits, fresh, lively and pure notes of cassis, black raspberry, violets, toasted bread and spring flowers. Coming from one of the top terroirs in Washington, this full-bodied, elegant and layered Cabernet has no hard edges, impeccable balance and a great finish. Probably the most complete wine in the lineup, it will be better with a few years of cellaring, and have two decades of evolution."
According to Wine Enthusiast - Cellar Selection! - "Almost all varietal (with 2% Malbec) from one of the state’s premier sites, this wine draws you into the glass with aromas of coffee, scorched earth, herb, spice and dark fruit. The palate shows a beguiling sense of restraint and detail, with the tannins combed to a fine sheen, perfectly framed acidity and a lengthy finish. It’s an exquisite example of the variety that should have a long life ahead of it. It will be best after 2020."
According to Wine Spectator - "A plush core of blackberry and currant fruit rides over the fine tannins, picking up floral and spicy notes toward the finish, show - ing delicate acidity and lingering easily. Best after 2017."
According to Stephen Tanzer - "Bright, dark red-ruby color. Slightly reduced aromas and flavors of blueberry, blackberry, menthol, chocolate and musky oak. Plush and sweet in the mouth, offering a distinctly mouthfilling quality; Januik presses very gently and it shows in this wine's pliant texture. The noble, sweet tannins are nearly invisible today. Cabernet in a very sweet style but without any heaviness."
Tasting Notes - "Made from what is arguably Washington State's best vineyard for the variety, the Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a supple and well-textured wine. The nose reveals currant and blackberry fruit along with chocolate and spice notes. It lingers over the palate with supple, well-balanced tannins. This wine is poised for a long life in your cellar." 14.4% ABV.
