WS 93 Vinous 93 WA 91 WE 90 Pts - According to Wine Spectator - "Sweet cherry and briar aromas and flavors highlight this firm, elegant and tensile Brunello, with dusty tannins coating the gums on the finish. Balanced and long, with fine potential. Best from 2016 through 2032."
According to Antonio Galloni - "The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gli Angeli is silky, layered and polished. Dark red and black stone fruits lead to floral and spice notes in a delicate, refined Brunello built on balance. The finish speaks to subtlety above all else. The 2008 is a fairly open, accessible Riserva, but all the elements are in the right place. This is a strong showing from La Gerla."
According to Wine Advocate - "The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gli Angeli is a delightful expression from a cooler vintage that managed to bring forward a generous portion of jammy ripe fruit regardless. It displays a brooding dark color and huge aromatic intensity that almost goes over the top. The overwhelming generosity of the wine is ultimately what wins you over: Blackberry, teriyaki, clove, game and sweet spice build an imposing and warm personality. Riserva Gli Angeli could benefit from another year or two of bottle aging to lose some of its youthful chewiness. Drink: 2017-2024."
According to Wine Enthusiast - "Earthy aromas suggest tilled soil, leather, prune, balsam and dried cherries marinated in spirits. The palate offers ripe black cherry accented with sensations of white pepper, cinnamon, fig, black tea and a hint of chocolate. It has assertive but polished tannins and nice depth, but it already seems fully developed. Drink 2015–2023."
According to International Wine Cellar - "Good full red. Higher-toned aromas of kirsch, sweet spices and licorice. Dense, lush and superripe, with sweet but reasonably fresh red fruit and tobacco flavors that offer considerable early appeal. The persistent finish features ripe tannins. ..." 14.5% ABV.
