Bourbon (Bur-buhn) Bourbon is a distilled spirit named for Bourbon County, Kentucky. It is an American whiskey which is produced predominantly from corn. It ranges between 40 to 80 percent alcohol by volume. It can be produced anywhere in the United States, however it has a very strong association with Kentucky. Almost 95 percent of all Bourbons are produced in the state of Kentucky. Bourbon is legally required to be aged in new, charred oak barrels which give it more color and flavor the longer it is aged.
