Tasting Notes: The 2013 Tench Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has gorgeous floral aromas mixed with blueberry fruits. Rich, pie-like flavors of plum and blueberry fruits, nutmeg, vanilla, cedar and stone make this wine alluring. Velvety tannins cleanse the palate and broaden the wines depth of character, leading into a long, succulent finish.
About the vineyard: The 43-acre Tench Vineyard is situated on the eastern edge of Oakville along the Silverado Trail. The area’s red, rocky soils of clay and volcanic rock have produced many famous Napa Valley Cabernets. Nickel & Nickel produces Cabernet from just nine acres of this late-ripening vineyard with northwest exposure. The grapes rapidly develop color and flavor as temperatures rise and harvest approaches.
Harvest Notes: Similar to 2012, warm days and cool, foggy nights prevailed, offering the perfect conditions for fruit and tannin maturity. The season began about 10 days ahead of last year and the vines looked well balanced going into the summer. The older block tends to ripen quickly, so we harvested this block in late September, then waited patiently for two more weeks as the younger block slowly developed ripe, jammy flavors.
