Robert Parker 96 Points: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Purlieu was aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months. This just has a Napa appellation, but is very concentrated -- even profoundly so -- and I have to argue that it's even deeper, richer and potentially even finer than the Martinez Vineyard from Pritchard Hill. Very long, impressive and intense, this looks to be a great value in the scheme of Napa Cabernet pricing. It is also no shy wine at 15.5% alcohol. This is a big-time sleeper of the vintage. Drink now-2030."
The winemaker, Julien Fayard, crafted this Cabernet to perfection. Julien trained in France, he was assistant to director of winemaking for the legendary Lafite-Rothschild, before moving to the Napa Valley in 2006. He worked at Quintessa before joining Atelier Melka. Most recently, Julien worked as Phillippe Melka’s director of winemaking with Hundred Acre, Vineyard 29, Lail, Gemstone and more. Julien has his own label called Azur yet is the fulltime winemaker at Purlieu and their sister label, Le Pich.
