Wine Enthusiast, 2015 Winemaker of the Year - David Ramey, Ramey Wine Cellars
"Ramey spent his early career creating benchmark wines for California’s Matanzas Creek, Chalk Hill, Dominus Estate and Rudd Estate. At the estate he founded in 1996, Ramey Wine Cellars in Healdsburg, he has long championed traditional, artisanal winemaking techniques in his single-vineyard Chardonnays and Cabernets."
WE 94 WA (91-93) AG (90-92) IWC (91-93) JS 92 Pts - According to Wine Enthusiast - Cellar Selection! - "Roasted coffee aromas are inviting on the nose of this Cabernet Sauvignon, blessed with 25% Cabernet Franc. The marriage works on every level, providing structured tannins and a leathery afterthought around vibrant accents of blackberry and dark plum. Broad shouldered, the wine is balanced with a jolt of minerality, suggesting cellaring through 2022–2027."
According to Robert Parker - "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot. It reveals deeper, richer cassis fruit than the 2011 or 2010, a sweet, velvety mouthfeel, and a medium to full-bodied texture. Drink it over the next 10-12 years."
According to Antonio Galloni - "Ramey's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon jumps from the glass with layers of flavor and pure intensity. Expressive floral and spice notes add lift, but there is no shortage of vintage 2012 raciness and intensity here. Firm yet well-integrated tannins support layers of creamy, highly expressive fruit. This is shaping up to be a very pretty wine from David Ramey."
According to International Wine Cellar - "Intense, smoke-accented aromas of cherry and blackcurrant, with Indian spice and floral notes adding complexity. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering energetic dark fruit flavors and a hint of chewing tobacco. This release is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 3% Petite Verdot."
According to James Suckling - "A rich and beautiful red with black currants and berries. Chocolate and spice too. Full body, round tannins and a long, long finish. A beauty. Drink now." 14.5% ABV.
