Pronounced ”Bar-bear-uh”. With ancient origins in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy, Barbera was Italy’s third most planted grape at the beginning of the 21st Century. Recently, interest in Barbera has been renewed by the move towards varietal labeling in Italy. There are now about 7,000 Acres of Barbera planted in California being produced by 200 wineries. Nearly a thousand years older than Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera is known for being a great everyday food wine that gives lots of berry flavor.
