French Red Rhone
The Rhône wine region is one of the classic wine regions of France, sitting along part of the Rhône River that flows for 505 miles from the Alps to the Mediterranean Sea. The Northern Rhône is characterized by a continental climate, while the south is characterized by harsh winds and more Mediterranean influence. As immigrants came with grapes from their homelands to plant and became more skilled, the wines from the Rhône valley became increasingly noteworthy. Since the grape varieties were not as recognizable as the more popular French grapes, the wines were named “Rhône-style” much like old-world regional wines.
