Syrah-Shiraz

Syrah-Shiraz

Responsible for some of the world’s darkest full-bodied red wines, Syrah is full of tannins and dark fruit flavors. The grape’s second name; Shiraz was given to the wine by Australians when it crossed the sea from France. It has since becomes Australia’s most popular red wine. Syrah is used in the famous Côtes du Rhône blend along with Grenache and Mourvedre. When tasted on its own, Syrah-Shiraz will make a large impact of flavor, then leave an aftertaste of pepper. To resolve this front-heaviness, Syrah is often blended with grapes that will add a bit of mid-palate. Interestingly enough, Syrah has one of the highest levels of health-benefiting antioxidants, due to the high level of tannins present in the wine. Syrah is one of the 18 noble varietals due to big, bold, dark fruit flavors.
