Shafer 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select: WA 98-100 Points- Robert Parker - "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is not in bottle, but it looks like another three-digit wine in the making. It tips the scales at a lofty 15.3% natural alcohol, but tasters will never feel any “heat” tasting it. This is a beauty, with crème de cassis notes intermixed with spring flowers, a touch of toasty oak, blackberries, blueberries and cassis, as well as licorice, vanillin and a full-bodied mouthfeel. At this stage, it is more voluptuous and opulent than the 2010, simply because that’s the hallmark style of the 2012. No doubt this is a 30- to 50-year wine if you want to cellar it properly and nibble on it over a long period of time, but it will be much more approachable in its youth than most Hillside Selects tend to be. This is, once again, a fabulous effort."
Shafer 2013 One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon Stag's Leap: Robert Parker 94 Pts. - "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five has a dense ruby/purple color and is a blend of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot aged 20 months in 100% new French oak. This is always a beautifully elegant wine from Shafer, and the 2013 is no exception. Blueberry, black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, along with crushed rock and spring flowers are present in this medium-bodied, stylish and elegant wine. Tannins are soft, the wine pure and ideal for drinking now and over the next 12-15 years. "
Shafer 2013 Merlot Napa Valley: Vinous 92 Points - Antonio Galloni - "A rich, explosive wine, the 2013 Merlot races across the palate with dark red and blue fruit, graphite, smoke, tobacco and menthol. Today, the 2013 is unusually firm, but it should start to soften with more time in barrel. White flowers, spices and plums are laced into the super-expressive finish. What a gorgeous wine this is. A splash of Petit Verdot rounds out the blend."
Shafer 2013 Relentless Napa Valley: Vinous 93 Points: The 2013 Relentless melds together lovely aromatic nuance and pliant, explosive fruit, with beams of supporting acidity and tannin that give the wine its sense of proportion. Lavender, sage, menthol, licorice and plums are all given an extra kick of brightness on the finish. Varietal notes abound in the 2013.
