Sémillon is a varietal originating from Bordeaux, famous for creating rich dessert wine in the area. It produces full-bodied wines with a taste comparable to Sauvignon Blanc or even Pinot Gris. It also happens to be the 3rd most planted white wine variety in France, being preceded by Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Sémillon is an important blending grape in White Bordeaux blends and makes up most of the composition of Sauternes dessert wines. Climate and growing location have a large impact on flavors present in the wine. Sémillon is one of the 18 noble grape varietals, producing dry, lemony, medium-bodied wines.
