    96 Points The Wine Advocate - "This wine will be released in May 2016. The 2013 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is an integrated and seamless blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Alex Heinz tells me that 2013 was a difficult vintage especially towards the early part of the growing season. It balanced out during the summer and allowed for steady ripening of fruit before the harvest. But 2013 was not as hot as 2011 and 2012 overall, and this edition of Ornellaia is beautifully tonic and shapely as a result. The bouquet is very developed in terms of aromas this year with beautiful notes of dark fruit, tobacco and spice. Those perfumes are just gorgeous. The mouthfeel is similarly intense with tannins that are still young, but are already silky and linear in nature. This vintage promises a long aging future.

    Colour: intense ruby red, tending to garnet. Nose: Mediterranean notes, complex, blueberry and ripe-blackberry aromas, spices tending sweet, tobacco and chocolate. Palate: warm, soft, sweet tannins of rare intensity The well ripe grapes, after being crushed and de-stalked to form the must, ferment for 12-14 days in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature (22 – 24 C.); during this period the must is often stirred in order to enable complete diffusion of the tannins and polyphenols contained in the skins. The early and spontaneous malolactic fermentation makes possible to transfer the wine into 2nd passage French-oak barrels since December. The maturation process in barrels lasts about 6 months, which is then followed by further 6 months ageing in bottle.

  • Tenuta San Guido Le Difese Toscana IGT 2014
    It is a 70% Cabernet and 30% Sangiovese blend. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature and maceration lasts for about 12 days for both the Cabernet Sauvignon to the Sangiovese. It is then aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels and for a further three months in the bottle. The wine is distinguished by a good structure and is extremely supple making it very pleasant and drinkable.

    Winemaker's Notes: The 2012 growing season was characterised by an abundance of sunny, dry weather; some rain did fall as well, but it occurred in just the right periods, before the harvest, and helped the vines to cope with the hot, dry conditions. The result was an even, consistent ripening process that in the end yielded generous, full-volumed wines that are remarkably appealing and seductive, with an overall character that we like to define with the word Incanto (‘Enchantment'). Ornellaia 2012 appears a deep ruby, and a remarkably beguiling bouquet boasts rich fruit and spices notes. The palate shows well rounded,full, and generous, with glossy tannins and a complete absence of any roughness. The 2012 lacks none of theproverbial concentration that distinguishes Ornellaia's great vintages, but this vintage adroitly masks that richness behindan expansive, magisterial structure, then concludes with a near-endless finish.Composition: 56% Cabernet Sauvignon - 27% Merlot - 10% Cabernet Franc - 7% Petit Verdot
